Hot Vinyasa Fusion Is Back at a New Day and Time

By Events

Looking for a class that combines the best of Bikram Yoga AND the best of vinyasa flow? We’ve got it!

Hot Vinyasa Fusion is back on Wednesday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m. Michelle will lead this 75-minute class that begins with several rounds of chaturangas, stretches and even some original hot yoga postures mixed in.

Then it transitions to some balancing poses and floor work that will be very familiar if you practice the 26 and 2 regularly.

It’s heated to about 100 degrees, so you will still work up a good sweat!

The original hot yoga sequence helps maintain and restore natural range of motion, but it is sometimes criticized for not having much of a focus on the upper body or hip openers. That’s where Hot Vinyasa Fusion comes in!

If you’ve tried it and loved it, your chance to practice it again is coming up soon. If you haven’t taken it yet, so is your chance to try it!

Sign up for the in-studio class here or the livestream option here!

Yoga Sculpt Pop-Up Monday, June 6 at 7 PM

By Announcement

The Iron Hour class you know and love has gotten even better and a lot more challenging!

We’ve recently rebranded this strength-based workout as Yoga Sculpt, and students are loving it.

If you haven’t been able to try it on Sundays or Thursdays, we’re offering a special pop-up class, Monday, June 7 at 7 p.m.

Yoga Sculpt still incorporates light hand weights (maybe even a little more than Iron Hour!), cardio and core work for maximum calorie-burning effect.

Instead of targeting the same muscles over and over, sequences change regularly so you’ll never hit that dreaded plateau.

It’s a total body workout designed to sculpt every major muscle group by combining yoga postures with weights and cardio. It’s a great balance of strength, conditioning and vinyasa flow!

We feel that Yoga Sculpt more appropriately describes this class and the effects it’s designed to have on your body. And we can’t wait for you to experience the difference.

Don’t miss it!

Why Lavender Towels in Savasana?

By News

Research has revealed that the essential oil of lavender may be used for treating anxiety, insomnia, depression and restlessness.

That’s why we’re so excited to have brought back our cool lavender towels for you to enjoy during savasana!

If, for whatever reason, you don’t want to receive a lavender towel, that is absolutely no problem. Just let the teacher know.

When you are finished with class, please place your used lavender towel in the basket just outside the hot room door with any rented Sterling practice towels.

We’ll take care of the rest. Enjoy!

How You Can Support Services for Veterans This Month

By News

Memorial Day is this month, and what a special time to remember the ultimate sacrifices our service men and women–and their families–have made.

In memory of them, we are asking you to join our May karma cause and “Be the Light” in our community for veterans.

We want to highlight and support Veterans Recovery Resources, which provides a unique by-veteran, for-veteran approach in delivering counseling, physical therapy, medical care and more. They are also one of our valued community partners!

Please help us support their much-needed role in being the light to one of the largest concentrations of veterans in the country.

If you’re not currently an active member, you can “Be the Light” by joining us for ANY class now through Memorial Day. Simply click this link and your donation gives you access to a class. Then schedule your class between now and Monday, May 31, it’s that simple! All proceeds go to this most important community service.

Sterling members are welcome to make donations to this worthy cause as well. If you can’t make it to a class, but want to make a donation, we will be accepting them through the end of the month.

Sheri Granberry Hits Major Class Milestone at Sterling!

By Testimonial

When Sterling Hot Yoga & Wellness (then Bikram Hot Yoga Mobile) opened in October 2010, Sheri Granberry took her first class at the studio during the first week.

She wasn’t new to yoga. Iyengar, Anusara, Jivamukti, Baptiste, Ashtanga and even Bikram were among the many styles she’d practiced before she landed at Sterling.

But it was the original hot yoga sequence of 26 postures and two breathing exercises that has consistently motivated her to practice since then, and just last week, Sheri reached an amazing milestone of 2,000 classes!

For Sheri, her practice has become an essential part of her day. “It’s part of my world, just like bathing or brushing my teeth. It’s a body/mind reset,” she said. “For me as I age, it’s more moving meditation and less of attaining a goal in a particular posture.”

She equates that consistent practice with a “type of internal cleansing, a feeling of bodily rejuvenation and a restoration of a fresh day/approach to things,” she said.

Sheri also noted the source of her motivation to practice, her yoga buddy, Flora Thompson. (Read more about their friendship that blossomed at Sterling.)

“A very long time” ago, Sheri was first motivated to practice yoga as “a retaliation to all the Jazzercise that people were doing back then,” she said of the fitness craze that flourished in the ‘80s.

She had even practiced the original hot yoga sequence on her own outside of the studio setting, and she noted the difference it makes.

“It’s so much better to practice in a heated room! Your body is like steel,” she said. “It bends when heated, but rigid when cold.”

Many times, it’s easy for students to work too hard in postures, denying themselves the opportunity to find balance, or as Sheri put it, peace.

“The more you force a posture, the less likely you will ever make peace with that posture,” she said of the most surprising things her practice has taught her. “Also my body is never the same day to day.”

Sheri has been a fixture on the front row as long as most of us at the studio can remember. Her focus, dedication and warmth is what we all love about her!

“It’s a lifetime thing that benefits both body and mind,” she said. “It’s not about being able to do all the postures; it’s about showing up.”

That was her advice for first-time students, to simply show up. But in the 10-plus years she’s been at Sterling, we think she’s got some pretty great advice for everyone!

“Listen to the dialogue. Try not to fidget and add extra movements. Keep it fluid and soft. Try to incorporate some beauty in your practice with stillness and grace. Try not to compare yourself with others. You be you!”

We’d love for you to show up at Sterling and begin your yoga journey with us! Come join Sheri and our amazing community for one low introductory price if you’re a first-timer.
