NEW! Wheel Yin Yoga Class on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 4:30 PM

By Events
Have you ever used a yoga wheel?

It’s a great prop to help massage the spine, assist in deep backbends and aid in flexibility, and we’re introducing them at Sterling!

Join Michelle on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 4:30 p.m. for a yin yoga class that will incorporate yoga wheels.

We’ll have wheels available at the studio for sale or rent, or you can bring your own.

We also encourage you to bring a thick towel or thin blanket if you do participate.

Wheels are commonly associated with deepening backbends and assisting in reducing tightness in the chest and shoulders.

But this class will also make use of the wheel in forward folds and hip-opening poses.

Sign up here in advance so you will have access to a wheel and to reserve your spot. Class size is limited!

This is the first of what we hope are even more wheel yoga classes, so we hope you can join us and let us know what you think!

Hot Vinyasa Fusion Returns Monday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.

By Events

Looking for a class that combines the best of Bikram Yoga AND the best of vinyasa flow? We’ve got it!

Hot Vinyasa Fusion is back on Monday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. Michelle will lead this 75-minute class that begins with several rounds of chaturangas, stretches and even some original hot yoga postures mixed in.

Then it transitions to some balancing poses and floor work that will be very familiar if you practice the 26 and 2 regularly.

It’s heated to about 100 degrees, so you will still work up a good sweat!

The original hot yoga sequence helps maintain and restore natural range of motion, but it is sometimes criticized for not having much of a focus on the upper body or hip openers. That’s where Hot Vinyasa Fusion comes in!

If you’ve tried it and loved it, your chance to practice it again is coming up soon. If you haven’t taken it yet, so is your chance to try it!

Sign up for the in-studio class here or the livestream option here!

Masks On for Breathing Exercises in Hot Yoga Classes!

By Announcement

Given the resurgence of COVID-19 cases, we are adjusting our mask requirements in our hot yoga classes.

Until recently, we taught closed-mouth breathing in pranayama to begin the class and blowing in firm to end it. We will encourage everyone to practice these again the same way.

If you prefer to practice these breathing exercises with an open mouth as they are typically taught, we will require masks on.

This applies to the breathing exercises only, and the mask may be removed for the yoga practice.

Masks will be available at the front desk. Please continue to observe social distancing inside and outside of the hot room.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding!

New Class Added: Vin/Yin Combo!

Experience an energizing vinyasa flow followed by the surrender of yin yoga in one NEW class. We’ll be offering Vin/Yin tonight and Monday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m.

It’s half vinyasa and half yin, but ALL amazing! It’s a great way to warm up the body in preparation for a deeper state of rest and meditation.

Sign up now to reserve your spot in the studio here or get the link to join the class virtually here.

We can’t wait to see what you think about this exciting new combo!

Sterling Schedule Changes Effective Thursday, July 1

By News

Due to decreased demand, increased vaccinations and falling infection rates, Sterling Hot Yoga & Wellness will begin limiting the number of virtual classes being offered effective tomorrow, Thursday, July 1.

We had to quickly transition to virtual classes (and for a period virtual-only) due to COVID-19 and stay-at-home orders. For several weeks, this was the only way we could keep the Sterling community together!

If you regularly attend our streaming classes, please check the schedule to see what options are still available in this format.

To participate in these classes, you will need to register in advance to receive the link to join. The link will be sent approximately 15 minutes before the class begins.

Effective July 1, 2021, the following classes will be offered in the studio and online. All others will be in-studio only.

Mondays
7 p.m. Vinyasa Flow

Tuesdays
5:30 p.m. Inferno Hot Pilates
7 p.m. Original Hot 60

Wednesdays
5:30 p.m. Vinyasa Flow
7 p.m. Yin Yoga

Saturdays

Platinum Plus Now Scheduled for Saturday, July 10

By Events

Have you been missing Platinum Plus? It’s back on this schedule this month at Sterling on Saturday, July 10 at noon.

Platinum Plus is our 75-minute take on the intermediate hot yoga series, and it combines postures you would practice in the 26/2 of the beginner’s sequence, intermediate Ghosh postures and others similar to vinyasa or yin.

Don’t be intimidated by the word “intermediate.” Every pose has steps you work on as you progress. We do recommend that you have practiced the 26/2 sequence before taking this one.

This class is offered for a $10 drop-in rate. Reserve your spot here!

Studio Etiquette Reminders

By Announcement

What a challenge the past 18 months have been for all of us! It’s exciting to see more of you in the studio as we return to normal. We welcome regular members, old friends returning and new faces to our wellness community.

We would like to remind everyone of these tips to make your experience (and others’) most rewarding.

• Classes start on time. The studio is open at least 30 minutes before class, so don’t be late! Plan to give yourself a few minutes to “arrive on your mat” to be in the right frame of mind for class.

• Please leave all phones and keys in the cubbies in the lobby and locker rooms. Doors are locked during class, so your personal belongings are always safe!

You, your yoga mat, towel and water is all you need in the hot room.

• Please observe silence in the hot room. For some, that is the only meditation we will experience throughout the day, so you are welcome to socialize in the lobby before or after class.

Please wait to leave until the teacher has left at the end of class. Use final savasana to absorb all those amazing benefits before you head out. Furthermore, we want to see you before you leave the studio!

• While official local and state ordinances have ended and studio guidelines have been relaxed, certain protocols are still followed. Mask-wearing is strictly optional. Classes are limited to 25 maximum capacity. The hot room carpet and other touch surfaces are still being sprayed with a virucide.

• Showers are again available. For your convenience, towels are available for rental at the front counter.

And so, we move forward! Thank you for your patience and for your ongoing support of Sterling Hot Yoga & Wellness. See you in the hot room!

Outdoor Vinyasa and Yin Classes Return This Weekend!

By Events

Now that the weather is warming up, we’re going to bring back our outdoor classes!

These proved to be a popular option before we put them on hold for the winter, so we hope they give you an option to enjoy the great outdoors and your yoga practice at the same time!

On Sundays at 4:30 p.m., we’ll meet at the stone monument, the “Rites of Passage,” between St. Joseph’s Chapel and the Student Center on the campus of Spring Hill College. Sign up here

Outdoor classes are included in all active Sterling memberships. If you’re not an active member, you can still participate! Your first class is on us, then drop-ins are $15 after that.
