Sterling 60 Added on Fridays, Platinum Plus Returns Oct. 28

By Announcement

Sterling Hot Yoga, Platinum Plus, special yoga class, intermediate yoga classDue to several months of inconsistent attendance, we are replacing the Viscous Yin class at 9:30 a.m. on Fridays with a Sterling 60 at the same time!

Now you can get your hot yoga, even if you’re not an early bird!

Several students have also requested a Sterling 60 after an Inferno Hot Pilates.

This is your chance to get your high-intensity workout in, followed by a heated stretch to help soothe sore muscles immediately afterward.

This change is effective beginning in October, so the first Sterling 60 at 9:30 a.m. will take place on Friday, Oct. 6. See you then!

Slow Flow Vinyasa Class on Wednesday Mornings

If you’re looking to add another vinyasa class to your routine, remember there is an unheated, slow flow class on Wednesday mornings at 8 a.m. This is an all-levels class led by Manja, who guides you as you develop strength, improve balance and enhance flexibility.

This class is offered for a $10 donation, so this class is open to the public. No Sterling membership or package is required to attend. Please support this class to ensure it continues to be available on our schedule!

Platinum Plus Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28

Your 26/2 practice can be challenging enough, but if you want to take it to the next level, try Platinum Plus!

This 75-minute practice incorporates the 26/2 postures of the beginner’s class, as well as intermediate Ghosh, vinyasa and yin postures.

Your next chance to try  Platinum Plus will be Saturday, Oct. 28 at Noon.

This class is an excellent way to try something new, push your body in a different way, work toward more challenging postures, and feel energized and accomplished. We recommend that you have practiced the 26/2 sequence for a minimum of three months before taking this class. This class is offered for a donation of $10.

Holistic Healing and Yoga Therapy Sessions Soon Available

By Announcement

holistic healing and yoga therapy sessions mobile alJulia Szvath, a holistic healer who combines both the conventional medicine of psychology with alternative solutions, such as breath work and yoga therapy, will return to Sterling for two weeks starting Aug. 20.

Sterling Hot Yoga Mobile founder Lucille Moran credited her work with Julia as an integral part of her recovery from breast cancer.

Julia believes that you are more than your physical body, and that parts of you, like your thoughts, your emotions or your energy field might be invisible to the eye, but they play a vital role in your health and well-being.

“Therefore I believe that a holistic approach is crucial to achieve long-lasting results in healing and recovery,” she said. “Addressing the individual as a whole instead of focusing on the physical symptom is a key to restoring health, peace and harmony.

“Illness is a teacher and healing is a journey of self discovery towards personal freedom,” she said. “My role is to assist individuals on this journey and provide support and guidance for our common goal: to restore health and live life fully without fear.”

Julia’s sessions are available to everyone. All you need is a willingness to try and an open mind to receive. To learn more about Julia, click here.

To schedule a session with Julia, contact David Roberts at the studio. More details will be sent in an email later this month. Also follow our Facebook page for more information!

Help Support Local Vets with Special Donation-Based Class

By Announcement

veterans recovery resources mobile alVeterans Recovery Resources is a non-profit, community-based mental wellness program that is currently being developed by veterans for veterans.

John Kilpatrick, one of our own Sterling yogis and a 31-year Army reservist, is the founder of the program. The goal of Veterans Recovery Resources is to improve veteran well-being by removing barriers to mental health care.

John is passionate about providing a unique recovery program for veterans and their families suffering from substance abuse, PTSD and other mental health issues.

The Gulf Coast is home to 5 million veterans, the second largest concentration in the entire country. In Southwest Alabama alone, there are more than 64,000 veterans. Of those brave men and women, 7,000 are in immediate need of help.

Local resources are currently very limited, but John is creating a program that truly will benefit each and every returning service member who needs and deserves assistance and care.

To help support this very worthy cause, please join us Monday, Aug. 21 at 5:15 p.m. for the Sterling 60 class. Sprite Rose Wood will lead the class in honor of our military veteran community and in support of Veterans Recovery Resources.

Tax-deductible donations will be accepted and 100 percent of the monies raised will be given to this much-needed program. Your donations will make an immediate difference. We look forward to seeing you then!

Class Updates, Announcements and Cancellations

By Announcement

Sterling Yoga Holiday Cancellations and Class AnnouncementsIntrigued by the combination of yin and meditation? You’ll get the chance to experience both on Sunday, July 16 at 4:30 p.m.

This Viscous Yin class will incorporate the mindful elements of yin practice, followed by a 15-minute guided meditation led by Wes Singleterry.

Many of our students who’ve taken this yin-meditation blend say the slower-paced practice is ideal preparation to get the maximum benefits of the relaxation from the meditation.

On July 4th, we’ll cancel all classes at Sterling to allow our students and staff to enjoy some time with their family and friends.

We’ll offer our regular slate of classes on July 3 and July 5, and we hope to see you on one (or both!) days as we encourage you to maintain a regular practice.

Have a safe and happy Independence Day!

During the month of July, we’ll be putting our Wednesday morning slow flow vinyasa class on hold due to the limited availability of teachers who can lead classes at that time.

We’ll keep you updated via this newsletter and our Facebook page for announcements about this class and its future offerings.

Lucille’s Last Class (For Now)

By Announcement

LucilleFarewellforNowBlueLucille and Bill Moran opened Bikram Hot Yoga Mobile in October 2010 and established a thriving yoga community fueled by their passion and enthusiasm for the practice and the area.

Mobile’s original hot yoga studio quickly became a place where people from many different backgrounds and abilities worked through challenges to improve body, mind and spirit.

The studio was renamed Sterling Hot Yoga officially on Jan. 1, 2014, but more than a name change, it reflected an opportunity to add more classes beyond the 26/2 sequence.

Today, we offer Iron Hour, Inferno Hot Pilates, Vinyasa and Yin yoga, all of which allow the studio to welcome many more new people to our yoga community.

None of this would have been possible without Lucille and Bill’s decision to locate their studio in Mobile, and to share their love for and the benefits of hot yoga with us.

Lucille will teach her “Farewell (For Now)” classes on Wednesday, June 7 @ 9:30 a.m. and Saturday, June 10 @ 9:30 a.m. Please join us in gratitude for all Lucille and Bill have done for the Mobile yoga community and let’s send them off with lots of love.

May Brings Workshops, Special Classes

By Announcement

SpriteArmBalanceSterlingHotYogaManja Podratz is now leading a 60-minute vinyasa slow flow class on Wednesday mornings at 8 a.m. Manja’s style of vinyasa yoga is offered in a non-heated room with a focus on postures that build strength, promote balance and increase flexibility in flow with the breath.

She received her 200-hour teacher training in 2014/2015 and also has extensive knowledge of hatha and kundalini yoga. This Wednesday morning class is currently planned for May and June, and is offered for a donation of $10.

On Saturday, May 20 at Noon, make plans to attend our Platinum Plus class led by Michelle. This 75-minute practice incorporates the 26 postures of our beginner’s class, but it is also complemented by intermediate Ghosh postures, as well as vinyasa and yin postures.

The Platinum Plus is an excellent way to challenge yourself, work on new postures outside of the 26/2 sequence, and feel energized and accomplished. We recommend that you have practiced the 26/2 sequence for a minimum of three months before taking this class. This one-time class is offered for a donation of $10, and may be added more frequently depending on response.

Finally, Sprite will be leading a workshop on Saturday, May 27 at Noon. “Finding Balance” will be a 90-minute session that will teach students arm-balancing techniques that will complement students’ Hot Bronze Flow practice and teach a few new techniques as well.

Balancing poses help connect with the present moment by requiring constant focus. Adding the challenge of balancing on the hands or arms instead of the feet requires an even greater degree of mental focus. Arm balances can also help to increase feelings of self-confidence, courage and inner strength. “Finding Balance” is offered for a donation of $10.
